NYU Cinema Studies and its Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Program invite you to attend the 6th biannual symposium on the preservation, archiving, study and creative use of orphan films. Register to join an eclectic mix of symposiasts: moving image archivists, cinema scholars, technologists, preservationists, curators, historians, collectors, students, lab experts, enthusiasts, media archaeologists, cinephiles, videophiles, digiphiles, and media makers who work with orphaned material.Hear 50 speakers address the role of orphan films in recording, representing, constructing, and imagining the state. See ephemeral, rare, nearly-lost, newly-found, rediscovered, resurrected, and neglected films.Registration fees cover access to all screenings, panels, performances and events; catered meals; registration packet; door prizes.

It's just a 10 minute stroll to Cantor Film Center from this European-style West Village hotel. The hotel only accepts reservation 6 months in advance. Please call around September 26, 2007 to ensure a reservation. Daily rates here range between $80 and $145.

The Chelsea Inn

A four story walk-up in a renovated 19th century townhouse, just off 5th Avenue. Daily rate here starts at around $99.

Chelsea Pines Inn

Rooms are decorated with movie posters featuring a star from Hollywood's past.Chelsea Pines is about a 15min walk or 5 min taxi ride to Cantor Film Center.

Second Home on Second Avenue

The walk is about 15 min from Cantor Film Center. Daily rates here for one of its 6 rooms starts from $85 to around $200. Please call before Oct 2007 to ensure a reservation.

Howard Johnson Express Inn

Two blocks from the much-filmed Katz's Deli, the HoJo chain's inexpensive downtown location offers 45 one- or two-bed rooms with all the basic comforts. The hotel is about 30 minute walk from Cantor Film Center, central to the East Village and Lower East Side bar and restaurant scenes.

Sohotel

First known as The Westchester, then as The Occidental, then as The Pioneer, and now as the "The SOHOTEL" the oldest hotel in NYC is located in lower Manhattan off Bowery at Broome Street, a few steps from Little Italy and China Town and about 25 min walk from Cantor Film Center. East Village Bed & Coffee
